Stanion is OES Employee of Month

Life Skills instructor Nanette Stanion has been selected Overton Elementary School’s Employee of the Month for March. She said she went into education because, “I have always wanted to teach school. It was later in life when I got the opportunity to work with students who have disabilities. I found out that I loved working with these students. I enjoy being able to help children to learn and discover the abilities within themselves.”

Her favorite books are Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” as well as books by Debbie Macomber. Stanion said her favorite part of her job is “Working with each of the students individually. When they grasp a concept and I see their face light up when they understand is the best feeling in the world.”

Her hobbies include reading, creating bulletin boards, family history, nature, as well as travel.

Stanion’s advice to those considering teaching? “The best advice I could give is if you do not love children and want to help them be the best they can be then do not teach. Remember that you are molding and shaping the next generation of adults.”
