OHS orientation on tap for parents

Overton High School will host the annual orientation/scheduling meeting for parents and students at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 18, in the OISD auditorium.  Parents will be given transcripts with the class rank of their child as well as information on schedules for the 2011-2012 school year.  The new graduation plans will be explained along with the change in state testing.  OHS teachers and staff will be available to help with the schedules.

Rabies clinic set Tuesday at OHS

A rabies clinic is set from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Agricultural Science Building at Overton High School. Cat and dog owners can bring as many pets as they want and shots are $8 per animal.  For more information, call Jeff Holland, (903) 834-6143.

Graham’s grandson to preach in Kilgore

Evangelist Jonathan Lotz, grandson of the Rev. Billy Graham, will lead the upcoming East Texas Crusade for Christ, bringing the message “God Understands.”  At 7 p.m. April 13, 14, and 15, the free event will take place at R.E. St. John’s Football Stadium in Kilgore. A love offering will be taken.

RC residents get the brush off

Due to the regulations of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regarding outdoor burning, Rusk County will no longer accept brush or any item(s) that will have to be burned at the six county transfer stations in Rusk County. This notice took effect April 4.    

Arp Heritage Fest slated on May 14

Third Annual Arp Heritage Festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in Arp City Park. The event will include entertainment, arts and crafts booths, food, games, and snack vendors, as well as the Second Annual Volunteer Fire Fighter Challenge; and antique cars and tractors.  Also presentation of world renowned Arp Rosemary plant in City Park at 11.  For more information, call (903) 752-0422.

G/T nominations due at LCISD

Leverett’s Chapel ISD will begin accepting nominations for the gifted/talented program starting Monday, April 11. Nominations, which may be made through the student’s homeroom teacher, should be made by Friday, April 22.

Overton Elementary schedules early childhood registration

Overton Elementary School will host kindergarten/Head Start round up from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 15. The child must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten. The child must be 3 years old by Sept. 1 to enter Head Start.

Necessary paperwork includes: the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, shot records, proof of residency (water bill), and parent’s driver’s license or ID card, and proof of income.

LC accepts transfers

Leverett’s Chapel ISD is currently accepting transfer applications for the 2011-2012 school year. The deadline for applying for a school transfer is May 3.

Application forms may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays in the elementary or high school offices. All new applicants must bring a report card when applying.
